"Wa-Qoo Shitaderamachi" was born as a totally new facility, that combines cultural experience activities with lodging, right at the place where in Osaka history is at its finest.
With the cooperation of the shrines and temples in the vicinity, we have prepared a variety of activities to experience religious and cultural practices at "Wa-Qoo Shitaderamachi". We are looking forward to warmly welcoming anybody who visits Japan.
At "Wa-Qoo Shitaderamachi" we have prepared a program with activities that allow you to easily experience some of Japan`s unique practices.
Please use the experiences to pass time in a calm feel-good mood.
As part of our program you can experience the following practices.
A kind of vegetarian dish that - following the Buddhist prohibition against killing animals - uses no meat or fish. It is one of Japan`s representative foods and the origin of the famous Kaiseki Ryori.
Moreover, Shojin Ryori is prepared for Buddhist priests and trainees. The process of "eating" is considered to be an important part of the Buddhist training.
The copying of sutras, Buddhist teachings. Shakyo is said to have its origin in the 7th century and it has been practiced for more than 1300 years until today. At "Wa-Qoo Shitaderamachi" we have prepared the Heart Sutra "Prajñāpāramitāhṛdaya (Japanese: Hanya Shingyo)". It is one of the shorter sutras and therefore a text with that Shakyo can be easily experienced by beginners, too.
A training practice to deepen the studies through the copying of Buddhist images. It is said that the practice was developed as an easier alternative for the difficult sutras in order broaden the knowledge of the Buddhist teachings and the Buddhist canon. Next to commonly used Buddhist images, have we at “Wa-Qoo Shitaderamachi” also prepared mini-sutra collections with original sketches that can be colored with brushes. Because all you have to do is tracing the lines of the sketch, even people who are usually not good at drawing can experience this practice without any worries.
Religious services to read sutras and worship before a Buddhist altar.
A practice that is obligatory conducted at a temple each morning. At "Wa-Qoo Shitaderamachi" we take everybody to a temple in the neighborhood, where you can experience the morning services.
We recommend participating in this activity to everyone who would like to use the early morning`s clear air to restore a peaceful, happy state of mind.
Zazen is a fundamental practice of Zen Buddhism that is practiced in a cross-legged posture, in order to achieve tranquility of mind.
Through settling one`s posture and breath, the heart calms down and one can concentrate on the inner self. It is a practice that can change your daily life.
The area of Shitaderamachi - the birthplace of "Osaka" - boasts the best of the history of Osaka.
