Sightseeing in Shitaderamachi

There are Shitennoji Temple, with a direct connect with Prince Shotoku, and Isshinji Temple where is said that Honen Shonin, the founder of Jodo Sect, had lived for a while. Shitaderamachi is one of the holy places in Japanese Buddhism.


Ancient Times
Naniwa-kyo, established before Nara Heijo-kyo, was founded in this area called Uemachi Plateau.
It's close to Naniwatsu port connected with China, and Prince Shotoku established Shitennoji Temple here.


Sengoku Period
With the appearance of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, the town became prosperous again. At the same time, as a main battlefield of the Summer Campaign of the Siege of Osaka, a dramatic drama occurred.
It is said that Yasui-jinja Shrine is the site where Sanada Yukimura (Sengoku busho/military leader) died during the Summer Siege of Osaka.


Now
Abeno HARUKAS, the tallest building in Japan, will come into view first. And there are Tennoji Zoo loved by Osaka locals, and Tsutenkaku. The tourist spots of Osaka Minami are also close to here.
Embracing history and culture, Shitaderamachi is developing with the times, and keeping changing!

1Grand head temple Shitennoji Temple

Established in 593, the first state-sponsored temple in Japan.
One of the seven major temples of Prince Shotoku. Chu-mon gate, pagoda, Kondo, Miedo, and Garans lining from the south to the north show Chinese architectural style of the sixth century. It is regarded as the sanctuary of Jōdo-shū that worships to the sunset in the west, with the west gate as the entrance to the Western Pure Land. (About 8 minutes on foot from WAQOO Shitaderamachi)

2Aizendo Shomanin Temple

The principal image of Aizen Myoo is believed to bring luck in achieving a good marriage and in harmony between married couples. It is said that love will be realized if you drink Aizen Water in the temple precincts. There is also Important Cultural Property Tahoto, and at the Aizen Festival, one of the three biggest festivals in Osaka, many people crowd every year. (About 5 minutes on foot from WAQOO Shitaderamachi)

3Yasui Tenmangu Shrine

In the precincts, there are bronze statue and stone monument of Sanada Yukimura who is said to have passed away during the Summer Siege of Osaka. It is popular and attracts many fans of history.

4Kiyomizuzaka

One of Tennoji Nana-Saka, the seven slopes of "Shingon Hill", "Genshoji Hill", "Kuchinawa Hill", "Aizen Hill", "Kiyomizu Hill", "Tenjin Hill", and "Ou Hill". It's a photography hotspot!
